Rope Burns

Last weekend I decided, quite impulsively, that the tree in our front yard needed a swing. My forays into home improvement usually go like this, in fits and starts. Knowing how this would end even before it began, Jamie implored me to go to Toys R US to get a nice plastic swing, but that seemed the easy way out and besides, I argued, swings in front yards should look like they’ve been there for 50 years, at least. I raced to OSH and bought the rope that looked the oldest and most authentic, not fully appreciating that gripping said rope created the same sensation as digging ones hands into a hive of angry bees. The kids graciously played on the swing until the pain became unbearable and the rope burns too many. So now the swing hangs limply in the front yard, a reminder of my inadequacy as a home improvement guru, silently mocking me whenever I walk past.

santa barbara

We took a quick trip up to Santa Barbara yesterday, of course the polaroid came with me. With the craziness of holidays we felt we hadn’t actually seen the kids as they’d been holed up with their cousins, so in what is now officially a tradition we drove up the coast, rented a six seater bike and rode into the sunset, quite literally. More pics from that part of the day to come, I shot these while we were waiting for our lunch from the Habit. Now that In’n Out is starting to lose their mojo (you heard that right in’n out, you don’t use dark green lettuce anymore so there) the Habit is now my favorite burger joint.

Jamie’s all time favorite tree. This was taken yesterday just after we finished a family portrait session in Pasadena. Jamie was starrrrving but I just had to take a picture of her and these gorgeous trees. Wouldn’t you know it, I left the radio on and by the time we got back in the car the battery was dead. Any normal human being, grumpy from hunger would have given me grief. Jamie just laughed and handed me Elsie’s magna doodle from the backseat. I wrote a message and stood on the side of the road. About a billion people passed me up before a kind soul with cables pulled over and got us on our way. Hooray for kind souls. Hooray for Jamie. Hooray for rain and ginko trees in Southern California:)
