Matthew and Erica are doctors in residency. Every day they see things that would make me faint and hide in a supply closet. What they do helps me put what I do in perspective. Plus, they are super fun to hang out with! These were taken on a cloudy summer day in Belmont Shores area of Long Beach. Walking the streets felt like stepping back in time a bit.

stephanie and greg | callaway winery

She held the cabernet up to the light, slowly swirling the glass as she prepared to taste her second varietal. That’s when she noticed Greg pounding his fifth glass, looking far too anxious for a man in the midst of a wine tour. She followed him outside as the rest of the tour headed in to see the distillery. What was he up to? Five minutes later, under the shade of a trellis with miles of callaway winery grape vine stretching out behind her, Stephanie figured it out. Greg got down on his knee and asked Ms. to become Mrs. Five months later they decided to go back to the callaway winery with us in tow to memorialize this very special place. We had a blast taking pictures, drinking callaway wine and looking forward to their wedding this August. Thanks for a great afternoon and a great bottle of wine too!

I brought the hasselblad along for this shoot, typically I shoot polaroid and black and white with this camera but I’m loving the color and the square format!

Love this set.
Peeked into the distillery as they’d missed out on this last time, for good reason;)

peggy & narong | engagement

Peggy and Narong spent an impossibly gorgeous Sunday afternoon in Pasadena with us for an engagement photography session ahead of their upcoming wedding this March. We kicked things off with a Polaroid to memorialize the most beautiful day I can ever remember. Stylish couple and a crisp blue sky, what more could we ask for?

After a quick change we headed to Eagle Rock for something a little less formal.

Ashbourne Drive

One day it just happens. You wake up and your little girl is all grown up. Kira was by far the snuggliest of our four children, I fondly remember her rythmic breathing as she slept sprawled across my chest. She didn’t so much walk when she was a toddler but hop here and there, always singing a song (Barney anyone?) or dancing a little dance. She is the perfect older sister: engaged and enthusiastic about life and responsible beyond her years. I don’t remember being half as capable at her age (14), she manages to juggle school, an internship and sports without ever letting the pressure alter her mood or rosy outlook on life. I suppose I’m like most parents when I imagine her doing amazing things with her life, I am so just proud of her. But deep down there are days that I wish I could grab her hand and walk back in time for just one more tea party, one more dance, one more little snuggle.

All shot on my Contax 645 with Fuji 400H film and the one of a kind California winter sun on one of my favorite streets in South Pasadena.

Lake Arrowhead | Dawson Family

A rare opportunity to shoot in the snow. I so want to shoot a wedding someplace like Sundance in the winter! One of the great advantages of shooting film is the latitude it has, digital had a tendency to blow out the whites to capture detail in black. I love the natural color and tones of these film shots:)

I still remember the first friend I made when I moved to America. His name was Kyle Kovaks and we shared matching bowl cuts and an addiction to all things Star Wars. There is a sweetness and joy in boys this age borne out of limitless possibility and perceived immortality, may time slow down for them!

Venues We Love, Chapter 1: Marvimon House

Last year I met Loop Haro of TACT Event Management while shooting a wedding at the Pasadena Museum of Contemporary Art. At the time Loop was representing the Marvimon House and he agreed to show me around the venue. I was blown away and thanks to Marvimon’s current representative (Loop’s gorgeous wife Kara) I was able to revisit Marvimon House and photograph the venue in hopes it will inspire one of our future brides looking for the perfect venue for an intimate wedding. Thanks Kara, looking forward to checking out the Smogg Shoppe (Marvimon’s sister venue and an equally awesome spot for weddings) soon!

Incidentally, Loop and Kara were married at Marvimon House a few years ago, such a stylish couple!

The Mavimon House is such a stylish setting, definitely with a vintage flare that translates so well in wedding photography.

Marvimon can be used as a wedding reception venue but I love weddings I’ve seen that feature the outdoor area for the ceremony and then take advantage of the open floor plan for a reception the moves organically from outdoor to indoor space. Brides, all that natural light spilling in will make for some truly gorgeous wedding photographs!

The large open space here is transformed into the dining area for sit down receptions, or can serve as more of a cocktail lounge for the less formal dining trends emerging for many weddings.
