jamie and i got to sneak away for a few days of rest and relaxation in hawaii. four days, one moped accident and one 15 hour flight ordeal later we are home. funny thing, all i remember is the laughing. which is exactly why i love this girl so much.
aforementioned moped accident happened day one, which killed any beach time for jamie, but she still put her feet in the water and made the most of it.
all in all, an adventure we will never forget, and one that makes us long for sweet days of nothing at home, a treasure far to rare these days for us.
all below taken on expired polaiod film stock, damn i love that film.

it’s like we’re seeing our wedding for the first time! looking at a print vs. that online viewer. omg, there is such a huge difference. i now have like 100 favorite favorite favorites. they are so perfect. so very perfect.

whoever the heck prints your photos is a GOD. seriously. these prints are stunning.”

Sunny Days and Lemonade

hoping to provide a healthy and nostalgic alternative to video games and you tube, I urged the kids to set up a lemonade stand in the front yard last week. as incentive I told them I’d match what they made on the first day. we live a few blocks from high school and i figured the students passing by on their way home from summer school would provide some good business.
caleb and cam quickly learned that elsie’s best use was attracting customers so they stood by and watched the customers roll in while elsie danced in the street. with a few hefty tips they made $30, and with my matching funds they cleared $60 in all.
I thought this would really inspire them to make this a regular thing. But instead they went and bought a video game and a slip and slide and want nothing more to do with selling lemonade. I can’t win.

we shot the fall campaign for mini & maximus in malibu a few months back, we are thrilled with how it turned out. mini & maximus is the brainchild of sophie st-onge, an insanely talented artists and designer based in Orange County. Check out her work, it’s insane!

One day…

…she won’t want to hold my hand when we cross the street. one day she’ll roll her eyes. one day I’ll walk into her room and it will be empty. one day she’ll be a bride. One day she’ll kiss someone else before bed. One day is coming. I just hope not too soon.

Steve and Hayley

Steve and Hayley know how to pick their spots, they got ready at the Viceroy in Santa Monica. The Viceroy is such a classy spot, so much attention to detail and classic California chic. The wedding and reception were held on the grounds of Adamson House in Malibu. Adamson House was built in the 1930’s and manages to feel like someone’s backyard even though it’s a California historical landmark. All in all it was a beautiful day with two sweet and beautiful people.
Hayley looked a straight out of Mad Men, classic style.

Loved the bridesmaids dresses, the color felt very nostalgic and matched the retro vibe at Viceroy.

The Viceroy in Santa Monica is easily my favorite LA Hotel, I wish I could move in permanently. Such great design and attention to detail and the rooms are so light and airy.

First look, gets me every time.

After getting ready the party moved to Adamson House in Malibu. Adamson House is the perfect venue for an early summer wedding. Loved all the original tile work and this original Balboa mural on the pool house wall by Ejnar Hansen.

All color shot on the Leica M4 or the Contax on fuji 400h or 800z. The square format shots are all on the Hasselblad 501 with Kodak BW400CN film. Loved how these turned out.

All reception BW shot on Ilford 3200 metered at 1600 on the Leica m4. Love the nostalgic feel of the grain, so classic. If there’s one thing we love at a wedding, it’s buffet style eating and one thing that makes the buffet even better is mexican food! It’s a perfect thank you to your guests! The tortillas were even handmade on the spot, scrumptious!

We heart buffet style eating at weddings, and we heart mexican buffet even more. Fresh tortillas made on the Adamson House grounds made this a particularly tasty meal!

Sarah and Abe are funny. And cute. And getting married in Hawaii next month. We can’t wait.
Pasadena once again came through. So did fuji film and Richard Photo lab. My lab kills it every time.
