jamie and i got to sneak away for a few days of rest and relaxation in hawaii. four days, one moped accident and one 15 hour flight ordeal later we are home. funny thing, all i remember is the laughing. which is exactly why i love this girl so much.
aforementioned moped accident happened day one, which killed any beach time for jamie, but she still put her feet in the water and made the most of it.
all in all, an adventure we will never forget, and one that makes us long for sweet days of nothing at home, a treasure far to rare these days for us.
all below taken on expired polaiod film stock, damn i love that film.

Sunny Days and Lemonade

hoping to provide a healthy and nostalgic alternative to video games and you tube, I urged the kids to set up a lemonade stand in the front yard last week. as incentive I told them I’d match what they made on the first day. we live a few blocks from high school and i figured the students passing by on their way home from summer school would provide some good business.
caleb and cam quickly learned that elsie’s best use was attracting customers so they stood by and watched the customers roll in while elsie danced in the street. with a few hefty tips they made $30, and with my matching funds they cleared $60 in all.
I thought this would really inspire them to make this a regular thing. But instead they went and bought a video game and a slip and slide and want nothing more to do with selling lemonade. I can’t win.

…she won’t want to hold my hand when we cross the street. one day she’ll roll her eyes. one day I’ll walk into her room and it will be empty. one day she’ll be a bride. One day she’ll kiss someone else before bed. One day is coming. I just hope not too soon.

Eleven years ago we were living in Santa Barbara, I was finishing up school and we had Kira’s bday party at the beach. Fast forward to today, same idea but this time we went to Crystal Cove and instead of pinatas we had boys.
Polaroid Camera with fuji 100c. Loving the color, this film is great as long as you keep it out of the shadows where it tends to go green.

Fuji 3000b, always a favorite.

So proud of you Kira, so excited to see what the next fifteen years have in store.

I love traveling with Jamie, mostly because she’s the most relaxed person in the universe and rarely has an agenda beyond drinking coffee and eating good food. This is good because I always have an agenda, typically one that requires way too much walking. DC is dream place to visit because I am an American history nerd. We packed a fair amount into one free day:)
Actual mold on exhibit at the Smithsonian, taken from Lincoln’s face the last year of the civil war, a short time before his assassination.
